Ficus carica 'Violette de Bordeaux'

Synonyms: 'VdB'

Violette de Bordeaux is a common-type fig first described in late 17th-century French writings under several names.  It was later brought to California, where the name Violette de Bordeaux was (mostly) settled upon.

Violette de Bordeaux are hardy figs that tend to stay small.  They produce small black or dark purple figs that are prized for their flavor.  Some growers have reported cracking of the fruit if it's not picked a little early.  Violette de Bordeaux often produce a breba crop on last year's growth, in addition to a main crop on new growth.
